Using a food processor, process cherries in batches until finely chopped.
Add cherries into Dutch oven along with pectin and butter. Bring mixture to a full rolling boil over high heat, stirring constantly.
Once boiling, stir in sugar and return mixture to a full rolling boil. Boil and stir 1 minute.
Remove from heat and skim off foam. Ladle hot mixture into 6 sterilized half-pint jars, leaving a quarter inch of headspace. Make sure there are no air bubbles.
Wipe rims. Center lids on jars and screw on bands until fingertip tight.
Place jars into canning pot with simmering water. They should be completely covered with water. Bring to a boil and process for 5 minutes.
Remove jars and cool. Ensure jars are properly sealed before storing.
